Here's a detail hiding in plain sight: in most well-designed typefaces, the top bowl of capital "B" is slightly smaller than the bottom one. That's a deliberate optical correction, not an accident. If the two bowls were made mathematically identical, the letter would actually look top-heavy to the eye, since the upper half of most letters naturally draws more visual attention. Shrinking the top bowl just slightly balances things out.
The letter's history is more variable than you'd expect too. Early Greek versions of this letter sometimes carried just a single loop rather than the double-bowl shape we take for granted today. The two-bowl structure gradually stabilized as the letter passed through different writing traditions on its way into Latin, eventually becoming the permanent standard.
"B" also shares its basic stem-and-bowl logic with capital "P" and "R," a small family of related letterforms among the capitals.
